Named on the Sanquhar War Memorial as:

PTE. JOHN BROADFOOT, ROYAL SCOTS.
John Broadfoot – age 33 – Private (273083) 11th Battalion, Royal Scots.
John was educated at Sanquhar Public School and was a commercial traveller for, and a partner in, Messrs Galbraith of Cumnock when he enlisted as Private (2794) in the Ayrshire Yeomanry in June 1916. He was posted as Private (203576) to the 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers in France on 5 April 1917 but was transferred to the 11th Royal Scots on 24 April. John was killed about two weeks later.
Born 1883 in Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire. Son of William and Agnes (Austin) Broadfoot of Kingsburn, Sanquhar. Husband of Mary (Pearson) Broadfoot of 23 Tanyard, Old Cumnock and of Castle, New Cumnock, Ayrshire who he married in December 1909 at Castle, New Cumnock.
Missing in Action on 9 May 1917 and named on the Arras Memorial, France.
Also named on the Sanquhar School memorial as AYR YEO.

Named on the Penpont Parish War Memorial in Dumfriesshire as:

THOMAS McLEAN.
Thomas McLean – age 36 – Private (37565) 1/8th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
Thomas was employed as a painter on the Buccleuch Estate when he enlisted as Private (46445) in the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was posted to the Scottish Rifles in France.
Born 1882 in Old Cumnock, Ayrshire. Son of Thomas and Grace (Young) McLean of Old Cumnock, Ayrshire. Husband of Ellen (McCreadie) McLean of Boatford, Penpont who he married in 1906 in Auchenleck. Ayrshire.
Killed in Action on 29 July 1918 and buried in Oulchy-Le-Chateau Churchyard Extension, Aisne, France.
