John Paton was born in Kilsyth and enlisted here in the Princess Louise’s (Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders) 1/7th Battalion.
His service number was 1418.
He died on the 25th May 1915 in France and Flanders.

1901 census: 5 years old b 1896, parents Mathew and Isabella Paton (nee Morrison), 40 Drumtrocher Street.

CWGC: Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery, Nord, France.
Age: 19 (and 10 months)

James Pollock, died on the 18th October 1918 at Salonika.
He was born in Kilsyth and enlisted here.
He was a Driver in the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery (D Battery. 116th Bde).
His service number was 71105.

Son of Robert and Janet Pollock of 26, Deacons Road, Kilsyth.

Alexander Ralston was born in Kilsyth and died on the 23rd April 1917 in France and Flanders.
He enlisted in Kilsyth for the 7th Battalion of the Border Regiment.
His service number was 4233.

John Ralston was born and resided in Kilsyth.
He died on the 25th February 1916 in France and Flanders.
He enlisted in Kilsyth as a private to join the 7th Battalion of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers, service number 21346.

Private Charles Rhodes was in the Royal Scots 17th Battalion.
He died on the 17th November 1917.
His service No was 46509
He was the son of James and Ann Rhodes (nee Brown)

Theatre of death F.& F.

Although listed on the stone as the sons of Robert and Annie Leishman (nee Brown), Charles Rhodes was Robert's step-son.
Charles Rhodes was born 28th August 1883 at 17 Stone Street, Gourock to James Rhodes, House Painter (Journeyman) and Ann Rhodes (nee Brown).
His parents, James (age 20) and Ann (age 17) married at 17 Stone Street Gourock on 21st August 1883.
His father James died on 23rd April 1886 - cause of death given on his Death Certificate was Diabetes and Phthisis (TB).
His widowed mother subsequently married Robert Leishman on 2nd March 1888 at Greenock.

Alexander Ross was a private in the Royal Army Service Corps, 1031st M.T. Coy.
He was aged 28, so was born in 1891.
He was born in Kilsyth
He died on the 22nd April 1919.
His service No was M2/102422

He was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Ross (nee Duncan), of 6, Charles St., Kilsyth, husband of Janet Burns Ross, of 25, Auchinstarry, Croy, Glasgow.

Daniel Rowatt was born in Kilsyth and died on the 20th November 1917 in France and Flanders.
He enlisted in Sterling as a private in the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders 1st Battalion,
His service number was S/24133.

Son of Daniel and Margaret Whyte Rowat, husband of Annie Jarvie of 17 Duntreath Terrace, Kilsyth.

James Russell, Chief Engine Room Artificer 1st Class, Royal Navy Unit Text: H.M.S. "Bulwark."
He died on the 26th November 1914
His service No was 269300
CWGC: 3. Memorial: Portsmouth
(Glasgow Herald 1st Dec 1914)
"Amongst those lost on H.M.S. Bulwalk were two Coatbridge men.... The other was James Russell, son of Mrs Janet Russell, at present residing in Kilsyth.
He was born at Langloan, Coatbridge and served his time as a boilermaker with Wm. Arnott & co. and was for some years employed at Hudsons boiler works, Coatbridge.
Russell enlisted in the Royal Navy as an artificer a number of years ago."

Robert Smith was born in Cumbernauld and also lived there, but enlisted in Kilsyth.
He joined the Kings Own Scottish Borderers, 7/8th Battalion as a private.
His service number was 15420.
According to the medal rolls he joined the action on the 10th July 1915 and died on the 9th April 1917 in France and Flanders.

CWGC: Arras Memorial Bay 6.

Son of Alexander and Isabella Smith.

1901 Scotland Census: living at 6 Auchensturry Row, Cumbernauld.
Alex, head, Isabella, wife, born in Kilsyth, and 4 siblings.

He was aged 27 when he died so was born in 1889
He was killed on the 30th August 1916.
His service number was 4309
He was the son of James and Isabella Stark (nee Tannahill)

Hunter Stark was born in Kilsyth.
He died on the 22nd September 1916 in France and Flanders.
He was a Private in the 1st Battalion of the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders).
His service number was S/40272.
He enlisted in Dunkeld, Perthshire.
Age: 23
Son of James and Isabella Stark (nee Tannahill)
James Stark died in 1933 aged 83.
Isabella lived until 1939 when she died aged 78.

Brother of Daniel Hunter Stark.

Private Robert Stark joined the 10th Battalion of the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in Kilsyth. He was born there and was killed in action on the 25th September 1915.
His service number was 16048.

He was born in Kilsyth and died on the 17th November 1915 in France and Flanders.
