At Holy Trinity Church, County Durham, England there is a Chalice in memory of John Cullen.

Neither he nor his family had any connections with Seaton Carew. Rather he was from Islay, Scotland. Oral history relates that the nieces of the then Vicar of Seaton Carew were friendly with a Miss Jane Cullen (relationship to the deceased unknown) of Edinburgh, hence why the Chalice was given to the Parish. He is also commemorated on the Kilarrow Parish Memorial at Bowmore, Islay.

The dedication on the Chalice reads-

To the Glory of God/in loving memory of/John Cullen/2nd Lieut./Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders/Killed in action/15th September 1916/Presented to Holy Trinity Church, Seaton Carew.
