This is a white painted Battlefield Cross.

It reads- IHS / IN / MEMORY / OF /MAJOR HARRY CHEYNE D BATTERY 189TH ARMY FIELD ARTILLERY BRIGADE /KILLED /IN /ACTION /JULY /10TH /1917

White painted Battlefield Cross. The Church will not be reopening after COVID due to the poor condition of the building after the 12 month COVID closure. It has, with immediate effect, been placed on the sale market- refer BBC Radio Shetland Evening News Bulletin 29 March 2021.

THE LATE MAJOR CHEYNE. Major Harry Cheyne, R.F.A., Tangwick, Shetland, who has been, killed) in action, was a Writer to Signet and a member of the firm of Mackenzie and Kermack, W.S., Edinburgh. He was 34 years age, and leaves a widow and one daughter.

Age 34 years old
Died 10 July 1917
Buried or commemorated at
DICKEBUSCH NEW MILITARY CEMETERY EXTENSION, Belgium.

Son of Harry Cheyne and Dora Chiene Cheyne, of Edinburgh; husband of Anne Violet MacMillan Salvesen Cheyne, of Edinburgh. Writer to the Signet.
