Walter Dodds Linton – age 27 – Trooper (3245) Reserve Household Battalion, Life Guards.
Walter had been a booking clerk with the North British Railway Company and was a parcel porter at Waverley Station in Edinburgh when he enlisted in July 1917. He was at Windsor when he became ill and he was in the Cavalry Hospital Detention Rooms when he drowned while taking a bath.
Born 1890 at Cathaugh in Kirkhope, Selkirkshire. Son of David and Margaret (Dodds) Linton of Spences's Buildings, Stow, Midlothian.
Died on Service on 19 December 1917. Burial place as yet not known.
He is named on the Ettrickbridge War Memorial in Kirkhope Parish Church and on the Stow War Memorial.
There are still questions about the circumstances of his death.
Update: He was "on service" at the time of his death so his case has gone forward. _________________ Ken
