The Courier & Advertiser for Wednesday 22 May 2019 has a story under the heading of VETERAN OFFERS TO BUY AND DONATE MEMORIAL >
Jim Beedie of Blairgowrie , Perthshire says that the War memorial to 4 Black Watch soldiers of the WW1 that had been located in Dunblane ,Perthshire was sold on ebay recently for £300 .
Jim Beedie says his grandfather was killed in the war while serving with the famous Black watch and he and his brother served with the regiment as well. He served from 1957- 1967 and he said " The Black Watch plaque being sold is ridiculous ! It never should have been sold , it should have been put in the Black Watch Museum . !" Mr Beedie said he would pay £300 for the sake of my brother and my grandfather and donate the plaque to the Museum ..
Scottish Military Research Group chairman David McNay said such items should not be put up for auction.
The plaque records PTES MICHAEL CONNABOY, PETER MALLEY, and THOMAS MALLEY . The memorial was removed as a new larger memorial was put in its place in Dunblane .
Seems that the item was placed on sale in Forfar with the seller saying they wanted to find a suitable place in order that more folk can see it .

There was an earlier write up in the Courier & Advertiser by the same reporter dated 18th May 2019 under the heading of ANGER AT ON LINE SALE OF MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO WW1 dead (as shown in the entry above Courier story) and the later write up by the same reporter dated 22nd May 2019 under the heading of VETERAN OFFER TO BUY AND DONATE MEMORIAL - Re JIM BEEDIE ex Black Watch veteran.
Two good write ups in the courier & advertiser

Does anyone have any idea where this came from in Dunblane, or know anything about the replacement memorial. |
