The memorial is at the side of the road in the village of Ringford but dedicated to the people of Tongland.
WMR 5869
The UKNIWM description is incorrect in that it describes the memorial as being on an artificial mound. The mound is natural.
OS Map Ref: NX 68812 57648 this is the correct Map Ref - it is wrong on UKNIWM.

I liked seeing this one.
My ggg grandfather Edward McGinnies (numerous spellings!) was a shepherd and lived at Dunjop Cottage, Tongland. His wife was Anne McLellan.
Haven't went down the McLellan side in great depth but another possibility here.....

It did catch my eye that there were 3 McLellans on this memorial and 2 with MM to boot. Must be a story there I think

Do you think the designer responsible for this memorial also did the Gatehouse of Fleet one?

The carvings and bronze plaques look similar. It's a pity D&C council didn't have an explanation panel for these carvings like at Gatehouse of Fleet.

It's possible that Gatehouse of Fleet and this memorial were done by the same person but that did not strike me. Gatehouse's memorial (bronzes) seem to be done with a free hand, not quite straight lines etc, Ringford looks to be straighter and more formal. Both memorials are in excellent condition.
I guess the reason that Gatehouse of Fleet has the explanation panel is that it is a tourist town so plenty of people around who might be inclined to stop and look (and money to pay for tourism).
