The Scotsman, 31st March 1924

OXTON WAR MEMORIAL HALL - FOUNDATION STONE LAID - The foundation stone of the War Memorial Hall which is being erected at Oxton, Berwickshire, in memory of the men of the district who fell in the war was laid on Saturday afternoon by Mrs WL Sleigh, wife of the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, in the presence of a large gathering. After being presented with a silver trowel as a souvenir of the occasion...

[Article continues with discussion of hall debt and the benefits of the hall]

The Scotsman, 6th April 1925

HEROIC BORDERERS - OXTON MEMORIAL UNVEILED - Yesterday the war memorial at Oxton, Berwickshire was unveiled by Sir William Lowrie Sleigh, Lord Provost of Edinburgh. The Lord Provost, who was accompanied by Lady Slight, Mr Sleigh Jun and Miss Sleigh, wore the uniform of a Lord-Lieutenand of the county of the city of Edinburgh. The Oxton memorial, the foundation stone of which was laid by Lady Sleigh about a year ago, is in the form of a hall, which it is intended to use for the welfare of the district. It will be officially opened by Lord Provost Sir WL Sleigh on Friday evening, when a concert will be held in the building.
Owing to the wet weather, the main part of yesterday's ceremony took place inside the building. A feature of it was a parade of ex-Service men who, under the command of Colonel Lloyd of Thirlestane Castle, Lauder, were lined up in front of the memorial.

The ceremony opened with a prayer of invocation by the Rev John Robertson, after which an address was given by Sir William Sleigh, who then unveiled the memorial tablet, which is on the front of the building beneath the names of the fallen. "The Last Post" was afterwards sounded by buglers of the King's Own Scottish Borderers who, together with pipers of the regiment, travelled from Redford Barracks, Oxton being in the regimental district. In the course of his address...

... Between the unveiling of the memorial and the sounding of "The Last Post", the memorial was dedicated with a prayer by the Rev Dr William McConachie. After the last hymn had been sung, a number of wreaths were voluntarily laid at the foot of the memorial. The service closed with the Benediction, the singing of "God Save the King", and the blowing of the Reveille.

[This was the only Berwickshire civic memorial erected as hall - instead of as a cross, obelisk, etc. or plaque in a church - although over in Greenlaw the existing Good Templars Hall become a War Memorial Hall in 1918: http://www.berwickshirenews.co.uk/news/local/all-news/greenlaw-memorial-hall-gets-250-000-lottery-grant-1-2144617].

I stand to be corrected but I believe that this is the Channelkirk Parish War Memorial. All of those named here are also named on memorials in the Parish Church.
