|Delighted to announce that Bo’ness Town Trust Association has received a grant of £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s First World War: then and now programme to undertake a project called “Without Fear: tracing the Great War stories of the fallen on the Bo’ness War Memorial”.
The latin phrase Sine Metu meaning “Without Fear” forms part of the Bo’ness town coat of arms. This project aims to discover more about the 398 men named on the Bo’ness War Memorial who died during WW1.
The Association has asked members Robert Jardine, Richard Hannah and Alan Gow (me!) to undertake the project on it's behalf. We are all local amateur researchers with an interest in WW1.
The results of this research will be found in an illustrated book, website, exhibition and talks.
As a long time user of this brilliant site for my own family military research I hope that members can help with our mammoth task of researching our names. In return I will share info on our findings with SMRG and also make the offer to help anyone out there with their own research where there is a link to Bo'ness.
All the best,
Alan Gow (Gow67)
