Hello Ilse.
I can only tell you a little about Richard McKnight. He was in a Scottish Regiment but (as you know) he was born and lived in Belfast in the North of Ireland.
His personal records are not available to the general public.

The 7th Battalion of the Cameronians Regiment (also known as the Scottish Rifles) were part of the 52nd (Lowland) British Infantry Division and, in October 1944, were part of the 1st Canadian Army who were in Beveland getting ready to attack the Island of Walcheren at the mouth of the River Scheldt on 1 November 1944.

Richard was originally buried in at the side of Notendijk Road, Hontenisse. Farm de Putter, but was reburied on 19 January 1948 in Kloosterzande General Cemetery.

Other soldiers of the 7th Cameronians who were killed about the same time are buried in Bergen op Zoom.

Thank you for adopting Richard's grave and good luck with your search.

Rifleman
McKNIGHT, RICHARD MCCANDLESS
Service Number 7047656
Died 28/10/1944
Aged 21
7th Bn.
Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
