Hi Malcolm, here are the details of Fallin's School Memorial as reported by Archie Bone, Chairman of Polmaise (Fallin & Throsk) Community Council, in his book "The History of Fallin".
FALLIN PUBLIC SCHOOL

Private Johnstone Barr Cameronian Highlanders
Private John Boyd Gordon Highlanders
Private George Brock Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders

The above were named on a wooden Memorial Tablet which was unveiled in the School on 12th December 1920. The funding of the tablet was paid for by public subscription by the people of the village. The tablet was made by Messrs John Crawford & Co. Glasgow and cost the princely sum of £33-10/-.
When the school was moved from the east end of the village to Lamont Crescent, this tablet went missing, in 1998 I read of this tablet and remembered it hanging in the Main Hall of the old school, I enquired through the school if they knew anything about it and was informed that it had been found very recently in a cupboard, the then Headmistress stated that the tablet was to be repaired and would hang in the school once more, unfortunately the tablet was given to the Church and was displayed there. On contacting the Minister I was informed that the tablet would be being given back to its rightful place, but to date this has not happened.
At least according to the above, it is on display in the church. The last time I spoke to Archie he was still trying to get this returned to the school. Willie. |

Well, eventually Fallin came to the top of my 'to-do' list, only 7 years later!! LOL!
As previously said, Fallin School Memorial is housed in Fallin Church, not just stored, but erected on the wall.
My thanks to Willie Stevenson for making arrangements to gain access to the church.

Ken
Many of the Cyclist battalion men in the Black Watch and Royal Scots were transferred during the war to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment when men fit for frontline duty were combed out when the cyclist units remained on home service.
Quite a few of the Scots who were found at Fromelles were former Highland Cyclist Battalion men in the Royal Warwickshires
