Annbank - Kyle & Carrick District
The Annbank war memorial is a tall and tapering grey granite pillar. I think the way the memorial steps in at the crown and the carved relief of the inverted sword is recessed in at the top of the shaft is slightly reminiscent of the Canadian memorial at Vimy.
The monument stands on ground between Nos. 53 and 55 Annbank Road, Mossblown.

The inscription reads:
IN HONOURED
MEMORY OF
THE MEN
OF ANNBANK
PARISH
WHO FELL IN
THE
GREAT WAR
1914 - 1918

I'm afraid the bamboo foliage was casting a lot of shadow and I couldn't get a good pic of the WWII names at the base of the memorial but the names are transcribed below.

This memorial is one of the most difficult to find and in one of the least appropriate sites. It cannot be seen from anywhere except at the foot of the steep slope leading up to it and the area around it is large enough for not much more than a dozen to congregate. There was talk of moving the memorial to a more appropriate position in 2003 but this seems to have petered out.

Not listed on UKNIWM
