Stirling, Clackmannan & Falkirk War Memorials List

Here is a list of the memorials which fall within the boundaries of three central Scotland local authorities. Clackmannanshire and Falkirk are quite small and sit next to each other so I though it appropriate to list them along with their much bigger neighbour.

As before let me know of additions and omissions and I will update the list. When I have a chance I will post links to memorials on this forum.

Adam,

A few wee additions to the above Civic & Church War Memorials.

Polmont War Memorial is within Polmont Churchyard/Cemetery - not Grandsable. (Grangemouth)

Grandsable's War Memorial (Grangemouth) has no names on it as the main War Memorial is in Zetland Park, Grangemouth

Muiravonside War Memorial is within Muiravonside Cemetery.

Queen Victoria School at Dunblane is itself a war memorial. Quote from http://www.qvs.org.uk/

Queen Victoria School can trace its history back to the turn of the century when the idea was first mooted of a school to commemorate those Scottish soldiers and sailors who fell in South Africa during the Boer Wars. The proposal was warmly received by Queen Victoria herself, and upon her death the following year, it was resolved that the School should serve the dual purpose of commemorating the dead servicemen as well as being a living memorial to the late Empress.

Within the school will undboubtedly be other memorials including a WW2 memorial as I found this via google.

1948 — "Earl Wavell Unveils Q.V.S. War Memorial. The Memorial Chapel of the Queen Victoria School, Dunblane, was the setting of a touching and impressive service on Sunday, 2nd of May, when the famous soldier and Colonel of The Black Watch, Field-Marshal the Rt. Hon. Earl Wavell, P.O., G.C.B., G.C.S.I., C'.M.G., M.C.,
unveiled the War Memorial to the former pupils of the School who made the supreme sacrifice in the recent war.

Presumably there will be a Great War memorial as well.

I have amended and linked the civic/parish list for Stirling, Clackmannan and Falkirk war memorials.

The information was based on what we already had, and the parishes contained within the three areas.

Anne will no doubt keep me right but , again, not too many to do for a 'full set' dependent on accuracy of information.

Mark,

A few updates - can you alter/amend the list to make them links?

Dennyloanhead
There is a WW2 Plaque which was originally in Dennyloanhead Church but it has a habit of disappearing and reappearing, fortunately, I managed to photograph it during one of it's appearances.
See: http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=89&highlight=dennyloanhead

Laurieston (Falkirk District)
Memorial sits at the junction of Mary Street (A803) and Boyd Street (B805)
Map Reference: NS 911 794
(I've updated the post adding the location)
See: http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?p=11965#11965

Church of the Holy Rude (Stirling) Parishioners
See: http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2514

West Park Church (Parishioners)
Situated in The Church of the Holy Rude, Stirling (as above), but in amongst a variety of others all on the same thread - can you fix/separate?
See: http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1871

Anne,

Have added/linked Laurieston to civic/parish list as with Dennyloanhead WW2 and Dunipace WW1 (although there is also a combined Denny & Dunipace memorial).

I will get round to the others but I think there are various threads with multiple memorials which will all need sorted in the fullness of time.

Thanks Mark.

The Memorial outside Dunipace Parish Church originally came from what I believe was the original church for Dunipace (Denovan Church) on Denovan Road on the outskirts of Denny. The building has been converted into a house for a number of years now.

For a photograph, see: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/202270

Loyal James Johnstone Lodge, Alva Cemetery (inside waiting room), UKNIWM 54131

lots of info on UKNIWM about this memorial including:

"After the roll hung in the Liberal Club it was thrown in a skip. It was then rescued and rehoused in the Cemetery."
