University students are helping Glasgow to map the city’s war memorials in a unique partnership which it hopes will help protect them for future generations.
Glasgow City Council’s Historic Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde’s Business School have challenged 240 first year students to gather and record information on all war memorials in the city as part of their course.

For goodness sake just what are we doing then.
Can anyone see a contact address for them? This is the second project in a matter of days which seems to be duplicating the effort we are already making.

A similar thing is also happening on a local scale. Gatehouse of Fleet community council had a large spread in a local paper about their concerns over the local memorial when they found that the Regional Council had no photographs or records of the names. They have taken their own photographs and placed them in a local archive - I have been in contact and explained our project - they are in the process of arranging for me to give a local talk to interested parties. I am also giving a talk next week to the Regional Council's newly appointed War Memorials Officer and his colleagues who are responsible for repairs and maintenance to war memorials.

It may be worth contacting other local authorities to say we are here!
Going back to the University students if any of them have any gumption they'll type "Glasgow war memorials" into Google and see us listed a few times in the first few entries. That will make it quite easy for them!

Just read the blurb all the way to the bottom of the Glasgow Council page. It looked familiar but then it was pretty much a copy of the text I added to the Wikipedia page on war memorials back on 11 September 2007!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_memorial
Pity too they didn't bother to look into Wikipedia a bit further to the Scottish War Memorials page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_war_memorials
Pity they didn't actually bother to use their search engine properly to find us instead of the Wikipedia page.
