An interesting man named on the Camphill Church memorial - LL. C. DAVIES

He was an Accountant and was living at 20 Darnley Road, Pollockshields. [PO Directory 1914]

The Du Rivgny Roll of Honour has:
DAVIES, Llewellyn Crighton M.C.
The son of the late William Henry Davies, editor of the Cardiff Figaro by his wife Hanna the daughter of the late David Crighton of Forfar, born Cardiff 9 Jan 1889, educ. Cardiff and Halifax; was a chartered accountant; joined 5th Bttn The Scottish Rifles 4th Aug 1914; received a commission and was gazetted 2nd lt in the regiment in March 1915; promoted Lieut July 1917; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from Nov1914; transferring to the R.F.C. in Feb 1917; obtained his wings in March 1918 and died at Sommerville Hospital, Oxford on the 16th of that month as a resul;t of a flying accident on the 13th. Buried at Penton near Andover. He was awarded the M.C. (London Gazette Aug 1915) for an act of approved gallantry.

He served initially as Pte. and Cpl. 6971 in the 5th Cameronians.

For conspicuous gallantry in action. He handled his trench-mortars with great skill, and knocked out an enemy machine-gun that was holding up the advance. He also took charge of various parties that had lost their officers, and brought in single-handed a wounded man under heavy fire
."

Background from the Great War Forum

Hamish B B Wilson was an officer with "A" Squadron of the Glasgow Yeomanry and fought with them in the Battle of Loos before joining the RFC.
Lt H B B Wilson of No 98 Sqn died in German hands on 18 July from wounds received on 16 May 1918 when flying DH9 C6103 with his observer 2Lt W Lamond who was taken Prisoner of War. The DH9 was on a bombing raid from Alquines aerodrome when shot down in flames 4 miles west of Coutrai after combat with enemy aeroplanes. It was last seen below the squadron formation at 07:30 with the centre section (the section of the upper wing above the fuselage) on fire.

He is buried in Hamburg Cemetery, Germany
