I take it that was in today's courier? I actually thought that the memorial gates had been removed after the new memorial cross was erected. (myself and Hugh Macrae have only recently been trying to obtain the unveiling reports for both). This is shameful. I hope they rectify the damage but I am concerned that, with the history of vandalism, it will be attacked again.

Sad news, the War Memorials Trust is aware of this article. I have just added a comment to the website:-

"Was this someone trying to steal the metal gates? Getting them marked as part of In Memoriam 2014 project would help protect them. If the council contact the War Memorials Trust, I would hope they would look favourably on an application for a grant towards the cost of restoration"

From Councillor Mulheron

Hello Mark,

Firstly I would like to apologise for the delay in responding to your email this being to prolonged problems on the Council's computer system.

I also would like to thank you for the information that you sent me regarding the War Memorial at Invergowrie Park, I have copied it in to my council officers.

The good news is that the memorial will be repaired as quickly as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Peter M.

Mark,

Just to advise you that I spoke to our Conservation Officer for the Invergowrie area, Richard Welch, and repairs to the memorial will be undertaken very shortly. We took away the stone into storage because it was lying precariously and I was concerned both from a health & Safety point of view and also for the safety of the materials. All stones were numbered and photographed before they were taken away so they will be restored as per original.

Regards,

Paul Haslam,

Projects Officer,
PKC Property Division
