Kelvin Stevenson Memorial Church, 62 Belmont Street, Glasgow G12 6JR

OS Grid Ref: NS 569675

This distinctive church was designed by the architect J. J. Stevenson and built 1898-1902. Red sandstone is used, as in many buildings in Glasgow. It was built by the Free Church of Scotland as the Nathanial Stevenson Memorial Free Church, becoming part of the United Free Church of Scotland in 1900, which in turn united with the Church of Scotland in 1929.
The church has a "crown tower", similar to St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh and the Chapel of King's College, Aberdeen. The church is located adjacent to the River Kelvin in Belmont Street at Belmont Bridge.
The current congregation has been created by a union of several churches in the area, including the former East Park Church, Kelvinside Old Church and Wilton Church.

ONE MILLION BOYS WHO THROUGHOUT THE

THIS TABLET IS ERECTED WITHIN THE PLACE WHERE

THESE HALLS WERE THEN THE MISSION OF THE FREE COLLEGE CHURCH THE MINISTER
OF WHICH, THE REVEREND GEORGE REITH, BECAME CHAPLAIN OF THE ORIGINAL COMPANY

THIS TABLET, ENTRUSTED IN 1933 TO THE ORIGINAL COMPANY

Re the Wilton Church Memorial. Louisa Jordan was a native of Maryhill, Glasgow and District Nurse at Buckhaven, Fife. In December 1914 she went, with Margaret Neill Fraser, to Serbia with the Scottish Women’s Hospital,. Unfortunately they both succumbed to the fever that was raging there. Louisa died on 6th March 1915 she is also commemorated on the York Minster Memorial

These memorials will all need to be split into separate threads - I'll add it to the "to do" list.
