Nicol Auld, killed 22-8-1917 and buried in Aeroplane Cemetery Belgium was a Corporal in the Royal Scots Fusiliers 6/7th Bat. He was a miner from Newmilns having been born in Darvel. He is my wife's Great Grandfather. He left behind a widow Elizabeth (Maiden name Campbell) and 4 young children Daniel, Mary, Nicol and James. In 1920 they emigrated to the US on the SS Columbia and settled in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania near Elizabeth's brothers and sisters who had already emigrated. Eventually Daniel married Gertrude Walschott an immigrant from Austria. Their daughter Katherine is my wife's Mom. Gertrude is still living at 97 in the Pittsburgh area. Nicol Auld left us a long time ago but his legacy lived on and that is a wonderful thing.
