Carluke Historical Society have scanned the Law "Souvenir of the Great War" which lists all the men from the village who served, and all the details behind the War Memorial.

It can be found by following this link.

Until I do a bit more homework I am at a loss as to why this man is commemorated here:

Name: HARBINSON, JAMES
Initials: J
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Highland Light Infantry
Unit Text: 10th/11th Bn.
Age: 26
Date of Death: 10/04/1918
Service No: 17602
Additional information: Son of James and Mary Harbinson, of Larne, Co. Antrim; husband of Sarah D. Harbinson, of 17, Hardy St., Clowes St., West Gorton, Manchester.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Sp. Mem. 12.
Cemetery: HAVERSKERQUE BRITISH CEMETERY

SDGW has him residing in Manchester and enlisting in Dunoon. There's something not quite right, but I can't put my finger on it.

I found out recently, by joining Carluke Historical Society, that this memorial used to be situated in Station Road. It was moved quite a number of years ago due to vandalism.

This obelisk is very similar in design to Cleland War Memorial
