I'm not sure about the background of this one, it's located in a public park near a part of town known as "The Heathery".
This memorial looks quite modern, as if it has replaced an older memorial.

According to Wishaw's Part In The Great War this memorial was unveiled on Sunday 12th October 1919 and was the first war memorial (or Hero Memorial as it was known in Wishaw) unveiled in the town
It was originally erected in the grounds of Sunnyside Church.

A 2014 article in the Wishaw Press states that 30 young men from Berryhill went off to war: 9 lost their lives. After the war the survivors started the Heather Club and erected the memorial to their comrades. It originally stood in front of the Berryhill Mission. It was later renovated and moved to the King George V Playing Fields. The full article can be seen at: https://www.pressreader.com/uk/wishaw-press/20141029/281973195923308 |
