Located in the local cemetery, this is one of the most religious looking memorials I've seen.

Very religeous. I don't think I've ever seen another war memorial with the crucifixion on it.

The cross shaft with its tree of life carving is very similar to the red sandstone cross at Shandon near Helensburgh. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same sculptor.

I was in St Bride's Churchyard in May this year (2104) and took photos of the grave of 15233 Pte. C. Park.

I can't upload the photo, but If you can advise me how to, I'll forward the photograph.

SNWM show him listed as Pte. 13233 , 11th Bn: http://www.snwm.org/content/roll-search/?id=439381&searchid=7e5b5a6f45ea621d8febf946b14bcc30&page=1

Theatre of death Great Britain
Cause of death Unknown
SNWM roll THE CAMERONIANS (SCOTTISH RIFLES)
Unit name Unknown Unit attached to THE CAMERONIANS SCOTTISH RIFLES
Other detail 11th Bn.

The ScotlandsPeople website show a Charles Park was born on 5 Aug 1878 at Douglas.
He is not listed in the Service Returns.
But I found his death record of 16 Sep 1918 at the Cottage Hospital, Douglas. He is shown as age 34, a coal miner (Private 11th Battalion Scottish Rifles). The cause of death is 'Pancreatic Disease Cholangitis".
If he was born 1878 and died 1918 he would have been 40 at the time of his death, so maybe he told a small fairytale about his age when enlisting.

His MIC on Ancestry shows him as 15233 Sco Rifles; entered (un-named) Theatre of War on 20 Sep 1915; entitled to BWM, Victory and 15 Star.

Tom.
