Cheers for posting that up Adam, i've been meaning to get up there for a while now. Stewart MacDougall was the first CO of the 10th Gordons, and sadly, their very first casualty - killed by a stray shell while on his first visit to the trenches.

I had a quick look at the CWGC database and I take it a few strings were pulled to get Capt MacDougall's remains back to Scotland.

I don't Know about it, it was early in the war therefore I suspect easier However my great aunt is still in the village I will try and ask her.

I don't know of other memorials around Britain except those in Ardfern just over the hill from Craobh, there is a war memorial by the Kirk in which stewart is mentioned and i think possibly also Ian. There is a plaque in the church itself and there is a memorial in the family plot at Kilverie further down the peninsula.
I have reason to be believe that Stewart may be mentioned in St Pauls Knightsbridge parishioners roll of rememberance UKNIWM no 39749 but I have never seen it to ascertain whether it is the same Stewart MacDougall,
