Located in the centre of Stow, on the side of the A7.

Named on the memorial is Private M2/079419 Henry COWE, Army Service Corps, Motor Transport, 1st Division.
Born 8th December 1893 Kedslie, Melrose. Parents William and Euphemia of Muirhouse, Stow.
Applied for police service, at this time he was living at Todrig, Greenlaw, Berwickshire, occupation gardener, single man, 5'10 in height.
Appointed to Northumberland County Constabulary 19th July 1913 as PC201, 3rd class constable.
19.7.1913 - 2.9.1913 HQ Morpeth (Training)
3.9.1913 Posted Whitley Bay
28.2.1914 He requested that he be allowed to resign, in a report he stated that Whitley Bay was too quiet for him, he told his sergeant that he was going to join the Metropolitan Police. The local superintendent asked Cowe's sergeant to try and talk him out of resigning and it appears to have worked as he was transferred to Ashington on 23.3.1914.
22.3.1915 Resigned to join HMF, enlisted at Coventry as a motor driver ASC and sent to Grove Park for training.
7.5.1915 Embarked Southampton on SS St Petersbourg
8.5.1915 Landed Rouen, France and on the 21st May posted to 319 MT Coy
11.6.1915 To Field Ambulance, no details recorded.
2.8.1915 Posted to Base MT Depot
25.9.1915 Posted 1st Division
Had three periods of leave in UK and granted 1st GC badge 27.4.1917
22.6.1918 To 22 CCS suffering from broncho pneumonia contracted on army service.
30.6.1918 Died at 3pm, he had been ill for 8 days and suffered pains in his back, legs and head. Buried Pernes British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Grave reference V D 9
His mother received a pension of 4/- from the army
His name is recorded on Northumberland County Constabulary and Stow war memorials.

Ran across this man who is on a memorial in the hills near Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Kirkcudbrightshire - but not on any local WM.

Named on the Lockerbie War Memorial as:

OLIVER, ISABELLA
Isabella McRobert Oliver age 19 Private (W/76105) Auxiliary Territorial Service.
A camp for French refugees from Normandy was set up at Sompting near Worthing in Sussex and staffed by the ATS. The southern end of the camp was bounded by the railway line and was hit by a high explosive bomb on the 28 May 1944. A number of ATS women were killed and others injured.
(Source: Westsussex.gov, GRO Death Index and family grave in Stow Cemetery, Midlothian)
Born 1924 in Annan, Dumfriesshire as Isabella McRobert. Daughter of Esther Smith (McRobert) Oliver and step-daughter of William Scott Oliver of Lockerbie who had married in 1932 in Edinburgh.
Killed by enemy action on 28 May 1944 and buried in Stow Cemetery, Midlothian. (CWG)
