Within a circular enclosure is the tombstone marking the burial of four Covenanters: John Wallace, William Heron, John Gordon and William Stewart, shot here in 1685.

Location is 2 miles NW of Crocketford off an unmarked road. The memorial is in woodland and not signposted so you will need a map and compass to find it. Park your car at NX 816 744, walk up the track, turn right at the T junction (about half a mile) and after about 20 yards you will see a stone wall through a gap on your left. OS Map Ref NX 813 753.

From the memorial you can see the Larg hill martyr's monument about 150 yards away up the hill. You can just make it out in the third photo.

A snowy day was not the best to photograph the memorial, I will have to go back sometime for a better photo, meanwhile you can see some other photos here http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/797211

Frustratingly, as this is their burial place, this is not a war memorial within the national rules, so cannot go on the WMR/UKNIWM.

It is of course locally a war memorial.
