Is anyone on the forum going to this weekend?

I've read that the Scottish Executive have contributed £5000 to these events. They can't confirm if a senior member of the Executive will be there because of the elections in May.

I've been considering going for a while now as my friend Alan Brydon is providing some of the music but i think that I've left it a little to late to book anywhere.

The Dutch WW I forum will be participating in this weekend with quite some members. We will also do a battlefield tour to Polygon Wood, Cryer Farm, Cheddar Villa, etc

The Sunday Mail had two articles about war memorials this week. One was about Carlisle Everiss (See the Stirling & Central Scotland topic) and the other was about Ivan Sinnaeve's work raising funds for the Scottish Memorial in Flanders.

You can find the second article here:

http://www.sundaymail.co.uk/news/feed/tm_method=full%26objectid=19134923%26siteid=64736-name_page.html

Unfortunately there are no photographs on the online version. It was a full double spread over the middle pages of the newspaper so it's good publicity for this memorial.

The article also suggests that our new First Minister will go to the unveiling.

See the small tv clip from local Flemish television on the monument :

Go to :

http://www.focustv.be/

Choose : Nieuws - submenu : Focus Nieuws online

Scroll down to : Kruis - and clic on it !

The final step in the construction of the memorial !

Just above it you will also find : Passendale

This clip is about the visit of the Queen tomorrow.

Tomorrow evening you can also find a tv clip about the visit itself in that section !

Enjoy !

Andy Pay has kindly sent me this cracking photograph - I do like the saltire hiding the cross and the word "SCOTLAND" peeping trough.

If anyone is going to the unveiling can they get some photos for the forum?

In fact, if there's a good photo submitted I'll use it to replace the photo at the top of the forum which you can see at the moment. The Scottish memorial is probably a more suitable memorial for the site.
