This WM is on the main rd at the junction of the minor rd to Lamlash. It is next to the Free Church at Bennecarrigan, OS grid ref 1" map is 943 221. The parish is Kilmory.

It commemorates the men (and one woman) of the district but doesn't say what district. Presumably the nearby townships of Lagg, Sliddery and Kilmory.

Inscription is "To the memory of the men of this district who fell in the Great War:
Pte Duncan Black, NZF (New Zealand forces?)

John MacKinnon, NZF
Samuel McRoberts RFA?
Vincent MacSkimmimg HLI
L/Cpl Alan McDonald and Ronald Murchie, Canadians
Cpl John Poole, Canadians
Eng John Stewart, RNR

"at the going down of the sun......"

1939-1945:

Able Seaman Charles McTavish MN

Re Capt Mary Crossley - Can you confirm if the memorial quotes "Captain" as there is a "Corporal" Mary McLean Crossley recorded by CWGC, buried in Kilmory Churchyard

Tony: I took the details down by dictaphone. My notes say Captain, so I am sure that is what I said into the mike. But it might be actually shown as Cpl or Cpt on the memorial and weathering has made it unclear, and I assumed it was Captain.

John

I think that you can safely say it was CPL as the ATS officers rank titles were not the same as the regular army. If you are in that area again I would certainly appreciate a photograph of her grave.

Best wishes.

Tony
