A bit of an oddity
The Cairns brothers (Arthur and John) were nephews of a Mr Grieg, a bootmaker, of Buccleuch Street in Dumfries and they are both named on the St. Michael's church memorial in Dumfries.
http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1055
However only John Cairns of the 9th Black Watch is named on the Dumfries War Memorial.
Arthur, who served with the 1st KOSB and who was employed at the Arrol-Johnston works in Dumfries is not named on the memorial. _________________ Ken |
