I visited in 2005. The island war memorial is on the "main" road, the north-south spine rd at grid ref (old 1 inch map) 860 430, near the island church.

There are 5 names on it from WW1 only; unfortunately, I was not recording full details or takin photos then.

The Memorial is situated in front of the Church of Scotland Parish Church on the main road through the island.It is a celtic cross mounted on a stone base enclosed by iron railings.
The inscription is:

To the glory of God and in proud and grateful memory of those who gave their lives for King and Country in the Great War 1914-1918

The Parish Church contains two brass plaques-one a Roll of Service/Honour for WW1 and one Roll of Service for WW2-it appears that no one from Lismore was killed in WW2.

The WW1 ROS/ROH lists those on the Parish Memorial with the exception of James Stewart.It also lists 3 additional names:

I have so far been unable to trace anyone other than Peter Douglas-perhaps the experienced sleuths can so do!

Incidentally the local minister told me that there was an original notion that no one in the Appin area had been killed in WW2 but that they have now discovered one/two casualties -with the information being posted on a website-oldappin?

She was Catherine McGregor McCormick b1889, daughter of Neil and Elizabeth McCormick of Daisybank Lismore, and was working as a Munitions Factory Inspector in Glasgow. She died there on 23 October 1918 of Influenza and on the same day her sister died on Lismore of the same disease. I know one brother for sure served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and likely another. Both of them survived.
