This is a plaque inside the island church at Craighouse. I did not see it when I visited the island this year: it is reproduced in the book “Jura Parish Church, A Brief History”. I will send a copy to be scanned but if it doesn’t, it reads as follows. One date is not too clear so a ? mark indicates it.
To the glory of God and in memory of those who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-19.
Capt James Archibald Lochneil Campbell, Yr of Jura A and S Highlanders 19/3/15
Capt Ronald Walker Francis Campbell 10th Royal Fusiliers 11/8/16
Lt Archibald Darroch HM Yatch Rhuma 16/10/18
Lt Dugald Shaw 5th Seaforths 27/7/17
Sgt Archibald A Shaw M.M. 11th Royal Scots 22/10/19?
Pte Archibald Darroch 1st Camerons 12/5/16
Pte Donald Darroch 7th A and S 25/4/17
Pte Donald Darroch 9th Royal Scots 9/4/17
Pte Alexander McDougall 9th HLI 26/9/17
Pte John McDougall 4th A and S 21/7/16
Pte Angus McKechnie 17th HLI 18/11/16
Pte John McKechnie 8th A and S 13/11/16
Pte Rober Mcpherson “ “ 17/12/14

The book list one known casualty from WW2, Lt Alexander Bruce Hargreaves-Brown, Scots Gds, kia June 1944. He was the joint owner of the Ardlussa Estate. |

The Church also holds two tablets to the Campbell brothers,a Window from 1946 which commemorates the safe return of those serving in WW2 and a Cross behind the Pulpit which was given in 1995 to commemorate 50 years of the end of WW2.
Details and photos will be posted soon. |
