I am somewhat puzzled with Esmond Elliot's connection to the Forfarshire parish of Aberlemno.
His sister was married to Lord Charles Mercer Nairne (also killed in the Great War) of Meikleour near Blairgowrie, Perthshire.

The Minto family appear to own a chunk of nearby Angus. Melgund Ruin being still in their ownership.

So perhaps on the memorial as they were the landlords of the parish?
