It would be interesting to know if Zigmar also resided in Glenboig with his brother prior to serving in the army.

Although he is listed as Russian, Zigmar Velkitus was born in Suwałki which is / was a Polish town. Of course when he was born Poland was split between Germany, Austria and Russia.

Research may have been carried out on this memorial but I did notice the 'added' name - John Duvoisin;
Name: DUVOISIN, JOHN HURLL
Initials: J H
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Second Lieutenant
Regiment/Service: Highland Light Infantry
Unit Text: 9th (Glasgow Hdrs.) Bn.
Date of Death: 15/07/1916
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Pier and Face 15 C.
Memorial: THIEPVAL MEMORIAL
In the 1881 Scottish census Emile Duvoisin, from Switzerland, was an iron merchant living at 27 Windsor Terr., Glasgow.
By 1891 we have Emile Davaisin (this is an ancestry transcription) married to Sarah with son John, living at 6 Broomhill Ave., Glasgow.
We have covered a few different nationalities but this, I think, is the first Swiss connection? |

John is also listed on the Bearsden War Memorial and on the family gravestone in the nearby New Kilpatrick Cemetery.
In the Scottish Post Office Directories for Glasgow in the early 1900's his father Emile Duvoisin is shown as of "Peter and Mark Hurll". This company operated two brickworks in the Glenboig area. For details see : http://glenboig.com/page7.htm
As John's mother Sarah was a Hurll presumably Emile married into the family business. _________________ Ken |
