Drumnadrochit & Glen Urquhart - Inverness District
UKNIWM Ref no. 5907

The Drumnadrochit and Glen Urquhart war memorial is a grey granite monument of an unusual design featuring a turreted tower set on a tapering pedestal and low rustic base, and surmounted by a small cross. The commemoration and names of the WWI dead are set in black lead lettering on the faces of the pedestal, and those for WWII are on a tablet set into the face of the base.
The monument stands in a railed enclosure by the roadside in the village.

Listed on this wonderful and well cared for war memorial is listed
Lieutenant Alexander Urquhart , HLI and Observer in 20 Sqn RFC flying FE2d no B 1891 on the fatal day of 17th August 1917 when flying with Canadian Pilot, Lieut H W Joslyn . They were on patrol that morning when attacked by Jasta 6 ...

CWGC lists Lt Alexander Urquhart , HLI & 20Sqn RFC as residing at an address in Inverness as he was Deputy Sheriff's Clerk at the Inverness Sheriff Court at the Inverness castle . His father was in fact Chief Prison Officer at HMP Inverness . He played the pipes ... He is listed on the SNWM

Also listed on the Inverness burgh war memorial . His parents grave is at Drumnadrochit and he is listed on the headstone

Ken

Nothing in the list of Army abbreviations so no idea.

She is buried in Klagenfurt War Cemetery, Austria but that doesn't help.

Having found close-ups of the Second World War panel on another website (hint, we need better images of the panel here!) I think the abbreviation is E.I.I. rather then E.L.I.

No clues to what that would stand for though.
