Not listed on UKNIWM
Located in Ballantrae Parish Church at OS Map Ref NX 083 825.
A little unusual to see a parish memorial paid for by the family of one man, although I have seen it once or twice before.

It's nice to see that Major Hughes-Onslow's name isn't given any precedence in the list of names. Here are his details from the CWGC website;
HUGHES-ONSLOW, DENZIL
Rank: Major
Regiment/Service: Dorsetshire Regiment
Unit Text: 6th Bn.
Age: 52
Date of Death: 10/07/1916
Additional information: Son of the late Henry John and Judith C. Hughes Onslow, of Balkissock, Ayrshire; husband of Marion Hughes-Onslow, of Laggan, Ballantrae, Ayrshire,.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: D. 12.
Cemetery: MEAULTE MILITARY CEMETERY
Regards

Among Edinburgh sculptor Alexander Carrick's business papers lodged with the National Monument Record of Scotland Office, Edinburgh, Manuscript Collection 22, is a receipt from Carrick dated 16th March 1922 for the Hughes Onslow memorial. I think it might be this memorial and the depiction of George Slaying the Dragon is fairly unusual in Scottish memorials. |

It could also be the memorial at Barr where he is listed but I think it more likely that the reference is to the memorial at Herensford http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5170

Canmore says, without images, that there is also a War Memorial Communion Table and Rolls of Honour (plural) and implies there is also a WW2 plaque |
