Location in Kells Parish church churchyard at OS Map Ref
Adam McWhan (or MacWhan) was carried from his sick bed to New Galloway where he was unjustly shot by the command of Lieutenant-General James Douglas, brother of the Duke of Queensberry.
This small stone was set into a new tall granite frame in 1832.

Frustratingly, as this is his burial place, this is not a war memorial within the national rules, so cannot go on the WMR/UKNIWM.
It is of course locally a war memorial. |
