Additional information: Son of Alexander D. D. and Joan Thomson, of North Ronaldsay, Orkney.

It would be interesting to find out if the quote at the bottom of the plaque has also been inscribed on Corporal Thomson's headstone in St Desir Cemetery.

Hi Adam

My Dad and I visited Alex Thomson's grave in St Desir Cemetery in August. I took a dozen photos there, also ten of the adjacent German Cemetery. Can send you photos if you wish, if you let me know what you'd like.

Can tell you that the epitaph on Alex's gravestone is:

MANY A LONELY HEARTACHE
AND A SILENT TEAR
BUT A HAPPY MEMORY
OF ONE SO DEAR

Regards
Brian Budge
