UKNIWM Ref: 44400

This memorial is now in Dalbeattie Parish Church (OS Map Ref NX 831 611). Colliston United Free Church merged with Burnside church in 1919.

Names of those who died (as far as I can determine from the script):

Although not noted on the roll, Matthew Wyllie was also killed in action. As stated, he was originally 1/5th Battalion (and served at Gallipoli with the original contingent), but latterly served with the 7/8th KOSB on the Western Front.

Matthew Cochrane Wyllie – age 30 – Private (29395) 7th /8th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
Formerly Private (2139) 1/5th (Dumfries and Galloway) Battalion, KOSB.
Matthew was a farm servant at Butter Hole Farm, Buittle when he joined the Galloway Rifle Volunteers in December 1906. He enlisted in “F” Company (Dalbeattie) 5th KOSB in May 1908, was mobilised in August 1914 and landed with his battalion at Gallipoli in June 1915.
In September 1915, due to illness, Matthew was evacuated to hospital on Mudros and then to the Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool. He remained in the UK until he was discharge from the army on 5 May 1916 as time expired after 8 years of service. He re-enlisted and was posted to the 7th/8th KOSB in France. (Source Army pension record and Medal Roll/Card)
Born 1887 at Annan, Dumfriesshire. Son of William and Janet (Smith) Wyllie of Springbank, Haugh of Urr, Dalbeattie.
Killed in Action on 23 July 1918 and buried in Buzancy Military Cemetery, France.
Named on the Buittle Parish War Memorial.
