James Dundas, Victoria Cross, Memorial
Location: St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, Palmerston Place, Edinburgh
OS Ref: NT 241 735
St Mary's Epsicopal cathedral is very dark inside. I have transcribed this memorial
To the memory of
captain
James Dundas V.C.
Royal Engineers
of Ochtertyre, Perthshire
Who fell on December 23 1879
in Afghanistan
in his counry's service
This tablet is dedicated
by his brother officers
as a mark of their regard
and admiration
You can find out a bit more on Captain Dundas VC on the wikipedia VC site. He was awarded his Victoria Cross for an action in 1865.

There is also a memorial window to Dundas VC in Rochester Cathedral.
I've found a bit more about his Edinburgh conections. He was born in Edinburgh on 12 September 1842, the eldest son of George Dundas, a judge of the court of session in Scotland, and his wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Colin Mackenzie of Portmore, Peeblesshire. He was educated at the Edinburgh Academy, at Trinity College, Glenalmond, and at Addiscombe College.
