OS Map Ref: NT533168

Located at Hornshole, near Hawick, the memorial records the capture of an English flag from a group of English marauders by the young "callants" of Hawick in the year following the great defeat at Flodden.

‘We are informed that by Sunday morning last the laurel wreath which had been placed the previous Thursday morning by Cornet Wilson on the ‘Lest We Forget’ memorial at Hornshole, had been taken by someone who, apparently, had no respect for the past`

Taken from the "Hawick Express" - June 12th, 1914.

(The more things change, the more they stay the same).
