Location in Parton Parish Church at OS Map Ref: NX 697 700

These memorials are of 2 brothers so I have posted them together.

Sgt Samuel Watson is UKNIWM 44441 and LCpl Adam Skirving (Shirving on CWGC) Watson is UKNIWM 44442.

Samuel Watson – age 29 – Sergeant (8752) 1st Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
A former gamekeeper at Castlewig, Wigtownshire, Samuel had served with the KOSB for over 11years. In August 1914 the battalion was in Lucknow and returned to the UK in December. In March 1915 they sailed for Gallipoli landing on 26 April 1915. He was part of the Battalion's Machine Gun Section during the attack of 4 June and was killed when the Turks counter-attacked.
Born 1885 in Balmaghie, Kirkcudbrightshire. Son of Robert and Sarah (McBride) Watson of Tintum, Parton.
Missing in Action on 4 June 1915.

Adam Skirving Watson – age 29 – Lance Corporal (225960) 10th Battalion (Lovat's Scouts), Cameron Highlanders.
Adam enlisted as Private (611) in the Scottish Horse Yeomanry in September 1914. He served as Private (6728) with the 1/3rd Battalion, Scottish Horse Yeomanry and landed at Gallipoli in September 1915. In October 1916 in Egypt he was transferred to Lovat's Scouts and then to the 10th Camerons before moving to Salonica in Northern Greece.
Born 1887 in Balmaghie, Kirkcudbrightshire. Son of Robert and Sarah (McBride) Watson of Tintum, Parton.
Killed in Action on 31 January 1917.
