UKNIWM Ref: 44439

In Parton Parish Church at OS Map Ref: NX 697 700. Note that this church is only open for service on the first Sunday of each month.

I must admit that I am a little confused by the existance of this memorial. Capt Sanderson is commemorated on the church memorial at St Margaret's Episcopal church so presumably he worshipped there, he also has an individual memorial in St Margaret's. He is NOT listed on the Parton Parish church memorial (presumably because he did not worship there), then why does he have another individual memorial inside this Parish Church? Incidentally, he is also listed on the civic memorial outside this (Parton) church. 2 individual memorials in 2 different churches, possibly his parents worshipped in different churches?

The surname of Sanderson and the KOSB pricked my attention here.

Three Sandersons' died as officers on the KOSB at Gallipoli. It is not such a common surname so perhaps they were all interlinked?

The other two might have been linked to each other (cannot tell from CWGC) but they are almost certainly not related to Archibald Sanderson. The family lived in a big architect designed house and were obviously local 'somebodies'. Their are no other Sandersons on individual memorials in local churches, nor on Parton or New Galloway civic memorials.

Captain Hugh Sanderson from Galashlels was involved in the woolen trade with his firm "Sanderson & Murray". They were "somebodies".
His daughter presented Lady Buccleuch with flowers at the unveiling of the 1514 memorial in Hawick in 1914.
