The memorial takes the form of a stained glass window below which are brass panels containing the names of the fallen.
The uppermost panel is for the adherents of the Parish Church (Abbey) whilst below are the names of the dead from the North and South U.F. Churches which were added when these congregations merged with the Abbey.

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THOSE OF THIS CONGREGATION WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919
THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE

Apologies for the brass plaques but they were almost impossible to photograph.

He is on the SNWM but his date is given as 4th October 1918 even though he is on the Menin Gate ( 1917) , CWGC has the correct date, he is on the casualty list for the 17th SF for 31st July 1917 (a copy of which I have) and he is mentioned in the September 1917 People Journal as kia. The SNWM have so far refused to change it and want his death cert from GRO.

Malcolm

Good news. At least they've done the decent thing at last. Did they need the Death Certificate?

Regards
