Interesting note on this one: The "broken column" on this is meant to indicate a life that has died before its time.

Many thanks for this update. A broken column is not a common design for a Scottish war memorial, I guessed it had some classical significance but had never got round to finding this out.

It's the first column I've seen in this country - very interesting.

It's the first one I've seen on a War Memorial. It's quite common among gravestones.

The 'broken pillar' is surrounded by regimental (or divisional?) crests:

Front and back -

the sides -

They are regimental badges. 5th Seaforths (Cat) front and rear; Seaforths (Stag's head) and Camerons (St Andrew)

I recognised the Stag and St Andrew; I wasn't sure about the Cat!

Presumably, 5th Seaforths was the battalion of choice?

Sorry for the delay in replying. The 5th Seaforths was the local Territorial unit in both World Wars and several men listed on the memorial served in the unit.
