The memorial is inside Brydekirk church at OS Map Ref: NY 182 704

The memorial is made of copper with an unusual embossing and this is the best of several photos (still not good), so a full transcription:

DIED AT HOME

Named on the Parish War Memorial as:
PTE. WM. ARMSTRONG, BLACK WATCH.
Not listed by CWGC.
William, aged 22, was an insurance agent when he enlisted in December 1915. He was mobilised as Private (12553) in the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion of the Black Watch in January 1916 but during his training he was diagnosed with tuberculosis at the Military Hospital at Cromarty and he was discharged from the army on 29 March 1916. He died at home four months later.
Born 1892 in Brydekirk. Son of William and Annie Shaw (O'Hara) Armstrong of High Street, Brydekirk.
Died on 25 July 1916. Burial place not known.

THOMAS BELL is not named on the War Memorial.
He died on 19 September 1919 at Mount Annan Lodge, Brydekirk in Hoddom Parish of Mitral Regurgitation. He was 27, single and a Discharged Soldier (Railway Guard) His father was Andrew Bell, an estate worker, and his late mother was Maggie Jane Halliday.

As yet I haven't been able to trace his military service.
