Dunvegan, Roag and Harlosh - Island of Skye
UKNIWM Ref no. 5909

The Dunvegan, Roag and Harlosh war memorial is a pink celtic cross with wheel-head surmounting a classical pedestal which in turn rests on a cairn built of local stone. The cross has celtic patterns carved in relief on the face and the commemoration and names of the dead are set in lead lettering on the faces of the pedestal.
The monument stands above the main road in the village leading to the castle and stands on a raised enclosure surrounded by a wall which is surmounted by a wrought iron railling.

Roll of honour for Skye and lochalsh by Graham Ross , roll kept in Portree library and at Inverness library.

Dunvegan War Memorial :

The Dunvegan War Memorial was actually in place in March 1924 , although it was not dedicated until the summer of that year. It was sculpted from Peterhead red granite and stands some 18 feet high. It was designed and sculpted by Mr John MacDougall of the Oban Monumental Works . When first erected it had 39 names on the Roll of Honour , Men from Harlosh, Roag, Bay as well as Dunvegan .

The Memorial stands in a promient position in the centre of the village of Dunvegan on a hillside overlooking the Dunvegan Hotel .
