Another one of my favourite memorials. I think this type of cross with a very tall, narrow shaft was common in Northumberland and Cumbria? or does the style originate from somewhere else?

It is significant that the plaque on this memorial refers to "the men of Kirkcowan and District". The River Bladnoch which forms the boundary between parishes of Kirkcowan and Penninghame (Newton Stewart) is just to the east of the village of Kirkcowan and a number of estates/farms which are in Penninghame Parish are connected more closely with Kirkcowan.
The memorial was unveiled on Sunday 8 May 1921 by the wife of Major W. M. Fleming Hamilton of Craighlaw House, Kirkcowan.
