Another covenanter memorial so some will regard this as a war memorial and others not.

James Kirko was shot (martyred) on the Whitesands in Dumfries and this memorial marks the spot. The memorial is just a few yards from the Dumfries Tourist Information Office (OS Map Ref: NX 970 761)

Not listed on UKNIWM

James Kirko is buried in St Michaels churchyard nearby (same churchyard as Robbie Burns). I thought of posting something about the man and the events, but google James Kirko and you will find it.

This cairn was unveiled in 1986 by Nithsdale District Council, under the Dumfries 800th Anniversary celebrations.
James Kirko's grave is in St Michael's churchyard near to Robert Burns.

Under the national definition of a war memorial this does indeed classify as a war memorial.

It is niw listed by the WMR (formerly UKNIWM), reference 71600
