BARBOUR, HASTINGS D. Dumfries.
Hastings Duncan Barbour – age 18 – Lieutenant: 102nd Squadron, Royal Flying Corps.
Hastings was educated at Dumfries Academy and at Silcoats School, Wakefield, Yorkshire. He was employed at the Commercial Bank in Dumfries when he was commissioned in the RFC in July 1917. He had been in France for six weeks, after five months of training, and was engaged in night bombing.
Born 1899 in Dumfries. Son of the late William Barbour and of Annie Forbes (Duncan) Barbour of Maxwelltown, Kirkcudbrightshire.
Killed in Action on 21 October 1917 and buried in Roeselare Communal Cemetery, Belgium.
Also named on the Maxwelltown War Memorial, on the Maxwelltown United Free Church Memorial now Maxwelltown West Church and on the Dumfries Academy and Silcoats School Memorials.


BRYDSON, GEORGE D. B. Dalbeattie.
George Dixon Black Brydson – age 20 – Private (56404) 1/7th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
George was employed in the Commercial Bank in Dalbeattie when he enlisted in the 12th Royal Scots in March 1917. He was posted as Private (53540) to the 14th HLI and then to 1/7th Scottish Rifles. He served at Arras, Armentiers and the Drocourt-Queant Switch where he sustained fatal wounds.
Born 1898 at Palnackie, Buittle. Son of James and Jane Helen (Black) Brydson late of Palnackie.
Killed in Action on 2 September 1918 and buried in Boyelles Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
Also named on the Buittle Parish War Memorial.


CALDWELL, JAMES Y. Annan.
James Yuille Caldwell – age 20 – Private (141621) 14th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps.
James was educated at Annan Academy and was employed in the Commercial Bank of Scotland in Annan when he enlisted as Private (3330) in the Royal Fusiliers in June 1916. He was posted to France as Private (34479) in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry in November 1916 and later transferred to the MGC. James was buried by the Germans in the Military Cemetery at La Broque in Alsace but was re-interrred in Plaine in 1921.
Born 1897 in Annan, Dumfriesshire. Son of Robert and Agnes (Yuille) Caldwell of High Street, Annan.
Killed in Action on 27 June 1918 and buried in Plaine French National Cemetery, Bas-Rhin (Alsace) France.
Also named on the Annan War Memorial and on the Annan Academy memorial.


DOUGLAS WILLIAM R. Biggar.

Named on the Selkirk War Memorial and Roll of Honour as:

DOUGLAS ,WILLIAM RUTHERFORD, LANCE-CORPORAL, R.A.O.C., 1916.
William Rutherford Douglas – age 27 – Lance Corporal (020383) 30th Company, Army Ordnance Corps.
William had served his apprenticeship at the Commercial Bank in Selkirk and was the branch accountant at Biggar, Lanarkshire when he enlisted as Private (25285) in the King's Own Scottish Borderers at Hamilton. He was posted to the AOC in Mesopotamia but he became ill and was admitted to the isolation hospital in Baghdad. William died of cholera six days later.
Born 1890 in Selkirk. Son of James and Margaret (Rutherford) Douglas of 15 Hill Street, Selkirk.
Died on Active Service on 12 November 1917 and buried in Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, Iraq.

McDAVID, JOHN R. Newton Stewart.

John Rae McDavid – age 18 – Private (41156) 1/6th (Perthshire) Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
“Jack” was educated at the Ewart High School and joined the Commercial Bank in Newton Stewart. He enlisted in June 1917 and was posted as Private (S/23224) to the 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in France on 31 March 1918. He was transferred to the Black Watch and less than two weeks later was fatally wounded. He died in the 4th Canadian Casualty Clearing Station in Pernes.
Born 1899 in Creetown, Kirkmabreck, Kirkcudbrightshire. Son of Joseph and Isabella (McClymont) McDavid of St. John Street, Creetown.
Died of Wounds on 12 April 1918 and buried in Pernes British Cemetery, France.
Also named on the Kirkmabreck Parish War Memorial in Creetown and o the Ewart High School memorial in Newton Stewart.

ROBINSON, JAMES H. Annan.

James Hope Robinson – age 18 – Private (S/41917) 1/6th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.
James was educated at Annan Academy and at the High School at Sedbergh in Yorkshire (now in Cumbria) He was employed in the Commercial Bank of Scotland in Annan when he enlisted as Private (Tr/1/14109) in a Training Reserve Battalion and he was posted as Private (S/23766) to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders but was transferred to the Seaforths in France. James was wounded on 21 July and died five days later. He was buried in the Eperney French National Cemetery but was re-interred at Wimille in July 1964.
Born 1899 in Annan. Son of Joseph and Eliza Little (Hope) Robinson of Cereal House, Annan.
Died of Wounds on 26 July 1918 and buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France.
Also named on the Annan War Memorial, on the Annan Academy memorial and on the Sedbergh School memorial.

SCOTT, JOHN, Hawick.

John Scott – age 21 – Private (S/15835) 7th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders.
John was employed in the Commercial Bank in Hawick when he enlisted. He landed with his battalion at Boulogne in July 1915.
Born 1895 in Castleton, Roxburghshire. Son of Thomas and Marion (Elliot) Scott of 5 Doncaster Street, Newcastleton.
Died of Wounds on 13 October 1916 and buried in Bazentin-Le-Petit Military Cemetery, Somme, France.
Also named on the Liddesdale War Memorial in Newcastleton.

Named on the Earlston Parish War Memorial in Berwickshire as :

KERR WILLIAM PTE. SEAFORTHS.
William Kerr – age 19 – Private (S/41896) 1/6th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.
William was a clerk in the Commercial Bank of Scotland in Earlston when he enlisted. He was posted as Private (23773) to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in France but he was transferred to the Seaforths. William died in the 9th Canadian Field Ambulance in Queant.
Born 1899 in Earlston. Son of William and Annie (Walker) Kerr of West High Street, Earlston.
Died of Wounds on 12 October 1918 and buried in Queant Communal Cemetery British Extension, France.
Also named on the Earlston Parish Church Memorial.

Thomas Arthur Dougall – age 29 – Private (3602) 1/9th (Highlanders) Battalion, Royal Scots.
“Arthur” was educated at Dunbar High School before serving his apprenticeship in the Commercial Bank of Scotland in Ayton, Berwickshire and after four years there he transferred to London. In 1911 he was living at Finsbury Park and he had been with the bank for nine years and was living at 62 Lombard Street when he enlisted in July 1915. He joined his battalion in France in February 1916 but he was wounded in July and died five days later in the 10th General Hospital in Rouen.
Born 1887 in Eyemouth. Son of David and Jessie (McArthur) Dougall of Eye View, Eyemouth.
Died of Wounds on 27 July 1916 and buried in St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France.

PRIVATE JAMES EWART PATERSON. K.O.S.B.
James Ewart Paterson – age 19 – Private (31563) 6th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
James had served his apprenticeship at the Commercial Bank of Scotland in Ayton, Berwickshire before he enlisted.
Born 1899 in Eyemouth as James Archibald Ewart Paterson. Son of William Paterson and of Isabella Lugton (Ewart) Paterson of 1 St. Ellas Place, Eyemouth.
Killed in Action on 30 September 1918 and buried in Ledeghem Military Cemetery, Belgium.
