This stone is for the Campbell-Prestons who lived just along the Loch at Ardchattan Priory.
The first soldier listed here is Lt Col George Anthony Murray. His date of death on the stone is 1943 but it was actually 1945. He was no relation to the Campbell-Prestons but was the first wife of The Hon. Angela Pearson who was the daughter of Weetman Harold Miller Pearson, 2nd Viscount Cowdray and Agnes Beryl Spencer-Churchill.
MURRAY, GEORGE ANTHONY
Rank: Lieutenant Colonel
Regiment/Service: Royal Artillery
Unit Text: 80 (The Scottish Horse) Medium Regt.
Age: 38
Date of Death: 23/04/1945
Service No: 36824
Awards: O B E, T D
Additional information: Son of Sir George Evelyn Pemberton Murray, K.C.B., and Lady Murray (Muriel Mildred Elizabeth Hope); husband of Angela Murray, of St. John's Wood, London.

He went to Eton and Oxford so is presumably commemorated at both. They had three children. The eldest became the 10th Duke of Atholl in 1957 and the other children died in infancy.
Angela (Not Angele as on the CWGC entry) Murray married again on 5th June 1950 to Lt Col Robert Campbell-Preston who died on 13th June 1996.
Lt.-Col. Robert Mordan Thorne Campbell-Preston MC TD is buried in this cemetery |
