Apprentice Brass finisher with Shanks Sanitary works, He resided with Mrs Patrick McCartney at 9 George street Barrhead, Joined up 23rd Aug 1914 formally employed with Messer's Saunders and Conner's Barrhead. The Barrhead News reported:- Killed in Action 27th Sept 1915, Previously reported missing Pte James Coulter Royal Scots, Formally of 9 George street Barrhead, "RIP" inserted by his Grand mother Mrs McCarthy 9 George Street.

Killed in a RTA while on Patrol with the 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders.
He is commemorated on the Barrhead Memorial.
