"Lance-Corporal John McLennan, of D (Gairloch) Company 4th Seaforth Highlanders (Territorials), in a letter to his brother, Mr Duncan McLennan, Commercial Hotel, Cromarty, intimates the death of his brother, Pte. Hector McLennan, of the same company, in the recent fighting. Hector, who was a piper. transferred to the ranks on the regiment proceeding to the front. He was well known in Cromarty, and much sympathy is felt for the parents and their family, who reside in Kinlochewe."
